Cabras: Between History, Tradition and Natural Wonder
Cabras, a charming village located on the west coast of Sardinia, is a place rich in history, unspoiled nature and authentic traditions. Nestled in the Sinis Peninsula, the territory of Cabras is known for its ultra-white beaches, such as those of Is Arutas and Mari Ermi, characterized by the peculiar quartz sand in clear, crystalline tones that make the water uniquely blue.
Cabras Lagoon, one of the largest in Sardinia, is home to extraordinary biodiversity and is populated by flamingos, herons and other rare species, a paradise for birdwatchers.
Here, eel and mullet fishing represents a centuries-old tradition, and it is from these waters that botargo, also known as "Cabras gold," a delicacy prized around the world, is born.
Cabras is also a custodian of Sardinia's ancient history: the nearby archaeological site of Tharros, with its Phoenician and Roman ruins, offers an open window into the island's glorious past. Also important are the Giants of Mont'e Prama, mysterious nuragic statues several meters high, discovered in this very area and evidence of ancient Sardinian civilization.
Strolling through the streets of the historic center, one can admire the mud-brick houses, built according to the ancient technique of "ladiri," which testify to the traditional architecture of Sardinia. Cabras preserves intact its costumes, dances and celebrations such as the "Corsa degli Scalzi," a religious and folkloric event that brings the inhabitants together each year in a display of faith and devotion to the patron saint San Salvatore.
Between sea, nature and history, Cabras and its territory offer an authentic experience, a perfect combination of ancient traditions and natural beauty, in an atmosphere suspended in time.
